I am predominantly a watercolor artist creating landscapes and dreamscapes with stained glass luminosity. I am also known for my bold, technicolor oils that feature bright color and deep shadows that conjure the feeling of shady places on a summer day. Working from old photographs and in the landscape, I am inspired by nostalgic images that say, “These were the good old days," and by scenes that evoke a sense of the sublime. Many of my in-studio works on canvas deal with family history, and rural America in the 1950s. During the summer I focus on plein air landscape painting in the mountains of New England, particularly the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Each year I hike in the backcountry and paint with an intent to capture the special atmosphere unique to this area with its changeable weather, steep trails, and inspiring views.
